Vintage HEART Shaped Mother of Pearl COMPACT MIRROR with two Compartments
Large, single piece of Heart Shaped Mother of Pearl Compact Mirror With Pouch And Pink Puff (pics show orange due to indoor lighting).
Age:
Exact age unknown. Estate, circa 1950-1960. Never used.
Material:
Singular, extra large piece of Mother of Pearl forms the top. Body is of a gold tone metal (most likely brass), no discolorations.
Mother of Pearl is carved from the inside of sea shells and has a natural curve. As a large single piece (rare find) the craftsman evened out this curve with a bit of clear coating to create a uniform surface. This is shown in the pics: see the bottom point of the heart how it changes tone, it's very well done. I like this as it shows why these large pieces are so rare to find, it's all due to that curve and the skill of the artisan to work with it. (This is why most companies simply use small chips.)

Condition:
Excellent, no signs of ever being used for powder, no detectable scratches. A few tiny blemishes to the metal on the gold on the front right and inside frame near the mirror - doing my best to take pics of these. The mirror has a little spotting on the inside from age (shown in images). Hinges and latch are in perfect condition both cosmetically and functionally. Given that this is about 60 or more years old, it's in incredible condition.
Features:
The "Hidden" compartment contains a thin unused pink puff original to the compact. Perfect, like new condition. Doesn't seem to have been used.
Outside Grey Felt storage pouch shows wear from years of being shuffled around in storage. It did its job well.
